This racetrack sculpture depicts the layout of Richmond International Raceway (RIR) racetrack located just outside Richmond, Virginia in Henrico County. It has a D-shaped oval track which runs 1.2 km in length with 14 turns. It hosts the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Xfinity Series. Sometimes dubbed as "America's premier short track", it formerly hosted a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, an IndyCar Series race, and two USAC sprint car races. It was opened in 1946 and until 2016, Richmond International Raceway was one of several racetracks to host all of its events at night. Some notable events under its belt are NASCAR, Sprint Cup Series, Toyota Owners 400, Federated Auto Parts 400, NASCAR Xfinity Series, ToyotaCare 250 (spring race) and Virginia 529 College Savings 250 (fall race).
